THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT OF CHEAP LASER GRAPHICS is a regional initiative, which gathers creatives from the fields of design, illustration, and visual art with the aim to promote graphic art. Conceptualized by the Turbotomorrow collective from Belgrade, the project was realized for the first time in May 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia, when the works of more than 30 designers and illustrators of various generations from Serbia and the Balkans were presented. Since 2012 the Summit of Cheap Laser Graphics regularly goes on European tour and in a cooperation with various European partners, events were organized in Berlin, Amsterdam, Zagreb and Basel. The next stop is Vienna, where – in a partnership with Vienna based associations Künstlerhaus and BLOCKFREI – the two day event will be organized at the Künstlerhaus.
Exhibited works will be reproduced on a standard office paper (A4 format) and printed out on laser printers in black and white technique. In this way the works will become available to the widest possible audience. Around 100 prints followed with information on the artist will be shown, where large part of the exhibited works will be by Austrian artist, graphic designers, street artist. The concept of the Summit is to encourage visitors to purchase the graphics at the exhibition, for only 1 EUR. The collected amount will be invested into a publication, which is later to be used for further project promotion. All works will be accompanied by a questionnaire filled out by the artists in order to sketch their brief profile, which will also be included in the book.
The project aims to promote the medium of graphics and contemporary art production from ex-Yugoslav region and at the same time to enhance collaboration with Vienna based artists. This exchange of experience and knowledge among the participants coming from different national and social backgrounds should result in a broad and comprehensive perspective when tackling the issues in question. Finally, Laser Summit of Cheap Laser Graphics wants to enable the artists to present their creative ideas and points of view through their art, while making this art available to everyone.
The project was supported by the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information and Bundeskanzleramt.
